OVO will inspire more people to pursue a career related to tackling the climate crisis, as it launches the OVO Tech Academy.
The OVO Tech Academy is an apprenticeship programme focused on supporting more people to kickstart a career in software engineering. Partnering with Makers, experts in apprenticeship programmes, the applications have opened today ahead of the new starters joining OVO in July 2022.
The apprenticeships are for Level 4 Software Developers (the equivalent to a foundation degree) that allows the apprentices to learn and earn from day one. The opportunity to launch a career in software engineering at OVO requires no prior experience in technology or software engineering, opening the doors for those with different backgrounds and experiences to join.
Across OVO there are around 350 Software Engineers all with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. But they all share a desire to develop brilliant, industry redefining products, as well as developing their own skills.
Every apprentice will receive a competitive salary with all training fully paid for by the apprenticeship levy, ensuring apprenticeships do not bear any costs associated with the programme.
Christina Scott, Chief Product and Technology Officer, OVO said “I’m passionate about supporting and inspiring more diverse talent to pursue careers in technology and opening doors to those without backgrounds in engineering. By launching the OVO Tech Academy we want to set up pathways for success, ensuring our future apprentices have the tools, support and advice on hand to thrive here at OVO.”
Kay Lack, the Makers Director of Training, said "At Makers, we think everyone should have a job they love, where they can go into work every day and do something they believe in and feel they are good at. People come to Makers with the ambition to change their lives. We give them brilliant tech skills and challenge them to be the person that they want to be and help them create a brilliant career in the tech industry.”
